WikiCup 2021 May newsletter
The second round of the 2021 WikiCup has now finished; it was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 61 points to advance to Round 3. There were some impressive efforts in the round, with the top eight contestants all scoring more than 400 points. A large number of the points came from the 12 featured articles and the 110 good articles achieved in total by contestants, as well as the 216 good article reviews they performed; the GAN backlog drive and the stay-at-home imperative during the COVID-19 pandemic may have been partially responsible for these impressive figures.
Our top scorers in Round 2 were:
- {{flagicon|BWA}} The Rambling Man, with 2963 points from three featured articles, 20 featured article reviews, 37 good articles, 73 good article reviews, as well as 22 DYKs.
- {{flagicon|New York (state)}} Epicgenius, with 1718 points from one featured article, 29 good articles, 16 DYKs and plenty of bonus points.
- {{flagicon|Republic of Venice|wartime}} Bloom6132, with 990 points from 13 DYKs and 64 "In the news" items, mostly recent deaths.
- 22px ↗ Hog Farm, with 834 points from two featured articles, five good articles, 14 featured article reviews and 15 good article reviews.
- 22px|England ↗ Gog the Mild, with 524 points from two featured articles and four featured article reviews.
- {{flagicon|ENG}} Lee Vilenski, with 501 points from one featured article, three good articles, six featured article reviews and 25 good article reviews.
- 22px ↗ Sammi Brie, with 485 points from four good articles, eight good article reviews and 27 DYKs, on US radio and television stations.
- 22px ↗ Ktin, with 436 points from four good articles, seven DYKs and 11 "In the news" items.
Please remember that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of Round 2 but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in Round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them (except for at the end of each round, when you must claim them before the cut-off date/time). When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed ↗ (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup ↗, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Wikipedia Wars and the Israel-Palestine conflict...please fill out my survey?
Hello :)
I am writing my MA dissertation on Wikipedia Wars and the Israel-Palestine conflict, and I noticed that you have contributed to those pages. My dissertation will look at the process of collaborative knowledge production on the Israel-Palestine conflict, and the effect it has on bias in the articles. This will involve understanding the profiles and motivations of editors, contention/controversy and dispute resolution in the talk pages, and bias in the final article.
For more information, you can check out my meta-wiki research page ↗ or my user page ↗, where I will be posting my findings when I am done.
I would greatly appreciate if you could take 5 minutes to fill out this quick survey ↗ ''before 8 August 2021.''
Participation in this survey is entirely voluntary and anonymous. There are no foreseeable risks nor benefits to you associated with this project.
Thanks so much,
Sarah Sanbar

WikiCup 2021 September newsletter
The fourth round of the competition has finished with over 500 points being required to qualify for the final round. It was a hotly competitive round with two contestants, {{flagicon|BWA}} The Rambling Man and {{flagicon|New York (state)}} Epicgenius, each scoring over 3000 points, and six contestants scoring over 1000. All but one of the finalists achieved one or more FAs during the round, the exception being {{flagicon|Republic of Venice|wartime}} Bloom6132 who demonstrated that 61 "in the news" items produces an impressive number of points. Other contestants who made it to the final are 22px ↗ Gog the Mild, {{flagicon|ENG}} Lee Vilenski, 20px|Zulu (International Code of Signals) ↗ BennyOnTheLoose, {{flagicon|Rwanda}} Amakuru and 22px ↗ Hog Farm. However, all their points are now swept away and everyone starts afresh in the final round.
Round 4 saw the achievement of 18 featured articles and 157 good articles. 22px|George Floyd mural ↗ Bilorv scored for a 25-article good topic on Black Mirror ↗ but narrowly missed out on qualifying for the final round. There was enthusiasm for FARs, with 89 being performed, and there were 63 GARs and around 100 DYKs during the round. As we start round 5, we say goodbye to the eight competitors who didn't quite make it to the final round; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia, and we hope you will join us again next year. For other contestants, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.
If you are concerned that your nomination, whether it be for a good article, a featured process, or anything else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed ↗ (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Congratulations to everyone who participated in this year's WikiCup, whether they made it to the final round or not, and particular congratulations to the newcomers to the WikiCup, some of whom did very well. Wikipedia has benefitted greatly from the quality creations, expansions and improvements made, and the numerous reviews performed. Thanks to all who have taken part and helped out with the competition, not forgetting User:Jarry1250, who runs the scoring bot.
If you have views on whether the rules or scoring need adjustment for next year's contest, please comment on the WikiCup talk page ↗. Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to '''sign up to participate ↗'''; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2022 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement! <small>If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send ↗.</small> Sturmvogel 66 and Cwmhiraeth. WikiCup 2022 March newsletter
And so ends the first round of the WikiCup ↗. Last year anyone who scored more than zero points moved on to Round 2, but this was not the case this year, and a score of 13 or more was required to proceed. The top scorers in Round 1 were:
- {{flagicon|New York (state)}} Epicgenius, a finalist last year, who led the field with 1906 points, gained from 32 GAs and 19 DYKs, all on the topic of New York buildings.
- {{flagicon|Christmas Island}} AryKun, new to the contest, was second with 1588 points, having achieved 2 FAs, 11 GAs and various other submissions, mostly on the subject of birds.
- {{flagicon|Kingdom of Scotland|old}} Bloom6132, a WikiCup veteran, was in third place with 682 points, garnered from 51 In the news items and several DYKs.
- {{flagicon|Philadelphia}} GhostRiver was close behind with 679 points, gained from achieving 12 GAs, mostly on ice hockey players, and 35 GARs.
- {{flagicon|United Nations}} Kavyansh.Singh was in fifth place with 551 points, with an FA, a FL, and many reviews.
- 23px|link=Flag of Provo, Utah ↗ SounderBruce was next with 454 points, gained from an FA and various other submissions, mostly on United States highways.
- {{flagicon|United Nations}} Ktin, another WikiCup veteran, was in seventh place with 412 points, mostly gained from In the news items.
These contestants, like all the others who qualified for Round 2, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews of a large number of good articles as the contest ran concurrently with a GAN backlog drive. Well done all! To qualify for Round 3, contestants will need to finish Round 2 among the top thirty-two participants.
Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Anything that should have been claimed for in Round 1 is no longer eligible for points. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed ↗.
Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup ↗, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. WikiCup 2022 May newsletter
The second round of the 2022 WikiCup has now finished. It was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 115 points to advance to round 3. There were some very impressive efforts in round 2, with the top seven contestants all scoring more than 500 points. A large number of the points came from the 11 featured articles and the 79 good articles achieved in total by contestants.
Our top scorers in round 2 were:
#{{flagicon|New York (state)}} Epicgenius, with 1264 points from 2 featured article, 4 good articles and 18 DYKs. Epicgenius was a finalist last year but has now withdrawn from the contest as he pursues a new career path.
#{{flagicon|Christmas Island}} AryKun, with 1172 points from two featured articles, one good article and a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews.
#{{flagicon|Kingdom of Scotland|old}} Bloom6132, with 605 points from 44 in the news items and 4 DYKs.
#23px ↗ Sammi Brie, with 573 points from 8 GAs and 21 DYKs.
#20px|link=SPQR ↗ Ealdgyth, with 567 points from 11 GAs and 34 good and featured article reviews.
#{{flagicon|United States of America}} Panini!, with 549 points from 1 FA, 4 GAs and several other sources.
#{{flagicon|ENG}} Lee Vilenski, with 545 points from 1 FA, 4 GAs and a number of reviews.
The rules for featured and good article reviews require the review to be of sufficient length; brief quick fails and very short reviews will generally not be awarded points. Remember also that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.
Good luck! WikiCup 2022 July newsletter
The third round of the 2022 WikiCup has now come to an end. Each of the sixteen contestants who made it into the fourth round had at least 180 points, which is a lower figure than last year when 294 points were needed to progress to round 4. Our top scorers in round 3 were:
- 20px|Zulu (International Code of Signals) ↗ BennyOnTheLoose, with 746 points, a tally built both on snooker and other sports topics, and on more general subjects.
- {{flagicon|Kingdom of Scotland|old}} Bloom6132, with 683 points, garnered mostly from "In the news" items and related DYKs.
- 22px ↗ Sammi Brie, with 527, from a variety of submissions related to radio and television stations.
Between them contestants achieved 5 featured articles, 4 featured lists, 51 good articles, 149 DYK entries, 68 ITN entries, and 109 good article reviews. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process.

WikiCup 2022 September newsletter
WikiCup 2022 September newsletter
The fourth round of the WikiCup has now finished. 383 points were required to reach the final, and the new round has got off to a flying start with all finalists already scoring. In round 4, Bloom6132 with 939 points was the highest points-scorer, with a combination of DYKs and In the news items, followed by BennyOnTheLoose, Sammi Brie and Lee Vilenski. The points of all contestants are swept away as we start afresh for the final round.
At this stage, we say goodbye to the eight competitors who didn't quite make it; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia, and we hope you will join us again next year. For the remaining competitors, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them, and importantly, before the deadline on October 31st!
If you are concerned that your nomination, whether it be for a good article, a featured process, or anything else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed ↗ (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup ↗, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. <small>If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send ↗.</small> The judges are Sturmvogel 66 and Cwmhiraeth. Correction to previous election announcement
Just a quick correction to the prior message about the 2022 MILHIST coordinator election! I ({{noping|Hog Farm}}) didn't proofread the message well enough and left out a link to the election page itself in this message. The voting will occur '''here ↗'''; sorry about the need for a second message and the inadvertent omission from the prior one. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 17:42, 15 September 2022 (UTC)

WikiCup 2022 November newsletter
The 2022 WikiCup has drawn to a close with the final round going down to the wire. The '''2022 champion''' is
- {{flagicon|England}} Lee Vilenski (1752 points), who won in 2020 and was runner up in both 2019 and last year. In the final round he achieved 3 FAs and 15 GAs, mostly on cue sports. He was closely followed by
- {{flagicon|Kingdom of Scotland|old}} Bloom6132 (1732), who specialised in "In the news" items and DYKs, and who has reached the final round of the Cup for the past three years. Next was
- 20px|Zulu (International Code of Signals) ↗ BennyOnTheLoose (1238), another cue sports enthusiast, also interested in songs, followed by
- {{flagicon|New York City}} Muboshgu (1082), an "In the news" contributor, a seasoned contestant who first took part in the Cup ten years ago. Other finalists were
- 23px ↗ Sammi Brie (930), who scored with a featured article, good articles and DYKs on TV and radio stations,
- {{flagicon|United Nations}} Kavyansh.Singh (370), who created various articles on famous Americans, including an FA on Louis H. Bean ↗, famed for his prediction of election outcomes. Next was
- {{flagicon|Chicago}} PCN02WPS (292), who scored with good articles and DYKs on sporting and other topics and
- {{flagicon|Toronto}} Z1720 (25) who had DYKs on various topics including historic Canadians.
During the WikiCup, contestants achieved 37 featured articles, 349 good articles, 360 featured article reviews, 683 good article reviews and 480 In the news items, so Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors. Well done everyone! All those who reached the final round will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation and review. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or the overall leader in this field.
- {{flagicon|England}} Lee Vilenski wins the featured article prize, for a total of 6 FAs during the course of the competition and 3 in the final round.
- {{flagicon|United Nations}} Kavyansh.Singh wins the featured list prize, for 3 FLs in round 2.
- 25px ↗ Adam Cuerden wins the featured picture prize, for 39 FPs during the competition.
- {{flagicon|Toronto}} Z1720 wins the featured article reviewer prize, for 35 FARs in round 4.
- {{flagicon|New York}} Epicgenius wins the good article prize, for 32 GAs in round 1.
- 23px|link=Flag of Provo, Utah ↗ SounderBruce wins the featured topic prize, for 4 FT articles in round 1.
- {{flagicon|England}} Lee Vilenski wins the good topic prize, for 34 GT articles in round 5.
- 23px ↗ Sammi Brie wins the good article reviewer prize, for 71 GARs overall.
- 23px ↗ Sammi Brie wins the Did you know prize, for 30 DYKs in round 3 and 106 overall.
- {{flagicon|Kingdom of Scotland|old}} Bloom6132 wins the In the news prize, for 106 ITNs in round 5 and 289 overall.
Next year's competition will begin on 1 January and possible changes to the rules and scoring are being discussed on the discussion page ↗. You are invited to '''sign up to take part ↗''' in the contest; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to have a good turnout for the 2023 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners and finalists, and thank all participants for their involvement! <small>If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send ↗.</small> Sturmvogel 66 and Cwmhiraeth. WikiCup 2023 March newsletter
So ends the first round of the 2023 WikiCup. Everyone with a positive score moved on to Round 2, with 54 contestants qualifying. The top scorers in Round 1 were:
- {{flagicon image|Royal standard of England (1406–1603).svg|link=Dual monarchy of England and France}} Unlimitedlead with 1205 points, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with two featured articles on historical figures and several featured article candidate reviews.
- {{flagicon|New York (state)}} Epicgenius was in second place with 789 points; a seasoned WikiCup competitor he specialises in buildings and locations in New York.
- {{flagicon|Germany}} FrB.TG ↗ was in third place with 625 points, garnered from a featured article on a filmmaker which qualified for an impressive number of bonus points.
- {{flagicon|USA}} TheJoebro64, another WikiCup newcomer, came next with 600 points gained from two featured articles on video games.
- {{flagicon|Byzantine Empire}} Iazyges was in fifth place with 532 points, from two featured articles on classical history.
The top sixteen contestants at the end of Round 1 had all scored over 300 points; these included {{flagicon|Berkelland}} LunaEatsTuna, {{flagicon image|Flag of Mars.svg|link=Mars}} Thebiguglyalien, {{flagicon image|Transgender Pride flag.svg|link=Transgender}} Sammi Brie, {{flagicon|New England}} Trainsandotherthings, {{flagicon|ENG}} Lee Vilenski, {{flagicon|Indonesia}} Juxlos, {{flagicon image|Flag of Earth.svg|link=Earth}} Unexpectedlydian, {{flagicon|Washington}} SounderBruce, {{flagicon|Wales}} Kosack, {{flagicon image|Flag_of_Esperanto.svg|link=Esperanto}} BennyOnTheLoose and {{flagicon|Chicago}} PCN02WPS. It was a high-scoring start to the competition.
These contestants, like all the others, now have to start again from scratch. The first round finished on February 26. Remember that any content promoted after that date but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Some contestants made claims before the new submissions pages were set up, and they will need to resubmit them.
If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup ↗, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. WikiCup 2023 May newsletter
The second round of the 2023 WikiCup has now finished. Contestants needed to have scored 60 points to advance into round 3. Our top five scorers in round 2 all included a featured article among their submissions and each scored over 500 points. They were:
- {{flagicon|Byzantine Empire}} Iazyges (1040) with three FAs on Byzantine emperors ↗, and lots of bonus points.
- {{flagicon image|Royal standard of England (1406–1603).svg|link=Dual monarchy of England and France}} Unlimitedlead (847), with three FAs on ancient history ↗, one GA and nine reviews.
- {{flagicon|New York (state)}} Epicgenius (636), a WikiCup veteran, with one FA on the New Amsterdam Theatre ↗, four GAs and eleven DYKs
- {{flagicon image|Flag_of_Esperanto.svg|link=Esperanto}} BennyOnTheLoose (553), a seasoned competitor, with one FA on snooker ↗, six GAs and seven reviews.
- {{flagicon|Germany}} FrB.TG ↗ (525), with one FA, a Lady Gaga song ↗ and a mass of bonus points.
Other notable performances were put in by {{flagicon image|Transgender Pride flag.svg|link=Transgender}} Sammi Brie, {{flagicon image|Flag of Mars.svg|link=Mars}} Thebiguglyalien, {{flagicon image|Cat in console.png}} MyCatIsAChonk, {{flagicon|Chicago}} PCN02WPS, and {{flagicon|London}} AirshipJungleman29.
So far contestants have achieved thirteen featured articles between them, one being a joint effort, and forty-nine good articles. The judges are pleased with the thorough reviews that are being performed, and have hardly had to reject any. WikiCup 2023 September newsletter
The fourth round of the competition has finished, with anyone scoring less than 673 points being eliminated. It was a high scoring round with all but one of the contestants who progressed to the final having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were
- {{flagicon|New York (state)}} Epicgenius, with 2173 points topping the scores, gained mainly from a featured article, 38 good articles and 9 DYKs. He was followed by
- {{flagicon image|Transgender Pride flag.svg|link=Transgender}} Sammi Brie, with 1575 points, gained mainly from a featured article, 28 good articles and 50 good article reviews. Close behind was
- {{flagicon image|Flag of Mars.svg|link=Mars}} Thebiguglyalien, with 1535 points mainly gained from a featured article, 15 good articles, 26 good article reviews and lots of bonus points.
Between them during round 4, contestants achieved 12 featured articles, 3 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 126 good articles, 46 DYK entries, 14 ITN entries, 67 featured article candidate reviews and 147 good article reviews. Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.
Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them and within 24 hours of the end of the final. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews ↗. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup ↗, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. <small>If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send ↗.</small>
I will be standing down as a judge after the end of the contest. I think the Cup encourages productive editors to improve their contributions to Wikipedia and I hope that someone else will step up to take over the running of the Cup. Sturmvogel 66 (talk), and Cwmhiraeth (talk)

Concerns regarding recent edits to Tuqu' ↗
<s>Hello, Tiamut.</s>
- <s> Here ↗ you described your edit as a restoration of removed content; however, it appears that ADeeperUnderstanding wrote this material from scratch on another article Teqoa (ancient town) ↗. Accordingly, your addition (not a restoration, as stated) of that material to Tuqu' ↗ is unattributed. Please ensure that copied material is properly attributed. In addition, the bibliography items were not carried over correctly, resulting in multiple harv errors.</s>
- <s> Your edit summary here ↗, "...the ancient history of the site still belongs to this town despite your moves," is needlessly confrontational and unconstructive, and borderline uncivil. Please keep future edit summaries focused on content rather than other editors.</s>
- <s>This ↗ edit summary was also problematic. The wording "shifty page move scheme" accuses another editor of bad faith and wrongdoing, which might be a WP:AGF ↗ violation.</s>
Hello BlookyNapsta,
You undid several edits I made that are not related to the issues you raised above, which I restored here ↗. They clearly outline what the sources say about the legal and historical relationship between modern Tuqu' ↗ and the Teqoa (ancient town) ↗, which should actually be treated as one topic.
I was not uncivil to anyone, though I did not properly attribute the material I imported into Tuqu' (as I thought it had been there originally, which is where it should be). Next time I restore it, I will be careful to do so.
Thank you for the holiday wishes. Have a good evening. Tiamut (talk) 17:28, 25 December 2025 (UTC)

:*Initial signal, Shlomit's post ↗ (but there are multiple channels e.g. Facebook) => WikiBias ↗
:*Then one of those posts, or something else I haven't seen, caused Haviv Rettig Gur's post ↗ => mention in The Armstrong Institute article ↗.
:*This was accompanied by an increase in engagement at the page (also visible via pageviews) mostly by editors who have not engaged with the page before, which I assume represents a skewed sample of the editor population, editors who happen to follow specific influencers. ::Hi @User:NorthernWinds. Sources for people from Jerusalem
In these more than 100 edits ↗ you've made to the article for List of people from Jerusalem ↗, only four of the hundred or so entries you added have sources. Per WP:LISTPEOPLE ↗, '''"Because the subject of many lists is broad, a person is typically included in a list of people only if both of the following requirements are met: [1] The person meets the Wikipedia notability requirement. [2] The person's membership in the list's group is established by reliable sources."
I agree that these people are notable, but you need to add sources. If you have the sources to connect the people to Jerusalem, why not add them with each entry? If you don't have a source, why add the entry? Alansohn (talk) 00:08, 8 May 2026 (UTC)
:Hi @User:Alansohn. I don't know if you noticed, but the only entry that had an inline citation before I began editing the page was Elie Wiesel ↗, who is listed in a separate section, Honorary Citizens. Criteria one is satisfied by the fact that the subjects have Wikipedia articles. For every entry I added, the information that justified their being added is present in their articles. I can certainly go back and begin adding inline citations to each entry, but I was just following the established precedent on the page that had garnered no objections or notice previously. Tiamut (talk) 04:31, 8 May 2026 (UTC)
:I should also note that I did add 4 citations I already had added to entries at List of Palestinians ↗, where there is an editor consensus that this is essential there. Tiamut (talk) 04:33, 8 May 2026 (UTC)
::Might add that the appropriate place to discuss the article content and structure is on the talk page. That way other editors can see what the requirements are for the page. We can continue discussion there @User:Alansohn.Tiamut (talk) 04:54, 8 May 2026 (UTC)
:::I can't possibly disagree that the article sourcing was bad before; 99% of the entries didn't have sources. As easy as it is to follow precedent, per WP:LISTPEOPLE ↗, editing guidelines take priority. Your edits increased the number of sources by four, but that still left 98% of entries without sources establishing their connection to Jerusalem.{{PB}}The list article has had very little activity recently and you hadn't just edited the article once, you had done so more than a hundred times, so I figured I would go straight to you and your talk page to discuss. Of course I have no issue with taking it to the article's talk page. Thanks for responding here. Alansohn (talk) 12:09, 8 May 2026 (UTC)

Quote at the top of this talk page
Hey Tiamut,
Do you have the Arabic original of the quote at the top of this page?
It seems interesting so I am currently trying to verify it (I am very suspicious ↗ of quotes ↗). All source seem to trace it to Baghdad's ''Al Akhbar'' newspaper. This newspaper isn't available online unfortunately and I was not able to find even just a physical archive (Well, I did find one physical archive that lets you order paid scans, but they did not have the cited date). I ordered a scan of an Arabic book quoting Balbūl so I'd have the Arabic original, but the book itself seems hard to reach and I am not sure whether I'll get it. I'd appreciate any further information you may have on this. <span style="color:#0072bc;font-family:Playfair Display;font-variant:small-caps">Northern</span>''Winds'' ❄️ (<span style="color:#f6b">talk</span>) 19:30, 9 May 2026 (UTC)
:No access to the original, but it was cited in two works; one being ''Discord in Zion: conflict between Ashkenazi & Sephardi Jews in Israel'' I added it ↗ to the article on Ya'qub Bilbul ↗ but someone deleted it. There is an internet archive of Giladi's book here ↗. In it, he gives the date of the issue: :Ya'qob Balbul stated in Al-Akhbar of 21 July 1938, that 'Jewish youth see in Zionism nothing more than colonialism and domination." Tiamut (talk) 20:00, 9 May 2026 (UTC)
::The removal is a bit weird. Also weird is that this quote ''is'' present in hewiki ↗ but not in arwiki ↗ (this is the opposite of what you'd expect)
::I saw these books (and also another paper that quotes it), I know that date, and I simply can't find anyone who has this newspaper on that day. The only online instance of this newspaper that I managed to find is this one ↗ which revealed a bit more but was ultimately useless. I had a few friends help me but ultimately we found nothing. I ordered a scan of الأقلية اليهودية في العراق بين سنة 1921 و1952 (which also quoted Bilbul); I'll see where it takes me. I'll tell you if there are any positive updates (or negative if the quote is confirmed to be fake).
::Best, <span style="color:#0072bc;font-family:Playfair Display;font-variant:small-caps">Northern</span>''Winds'' ❄️ (<span style="color:#f6b">talk</span>) 20:16, 9 May 2026 (UTC)
::: There have been many newspapers with that name, including one in Palestine. Are you sure it is one published in Baghdad? To check for mistaken identity, here is the 21 July 1938 issue ↗ of the Palestinian paper. Zero<small>talk ↗</small> 06:52, 10 May 2026 (UTC)
::::Multiple secondary sources have cited the quote and indicated it was in the Al Akhbar ↗ published in Iraq. I don't really understand why there is any doubt that it exists. The source I just linked to gives multiple sources for it and questions only the circumstances under which it was composed and published, claiming Iraqi Jews were pressured by the government to do so. It should be returned to his article too. It is a notable statement, as attested by its discussion in multiple sources, none of which have ever questioned its existence. Tiamut (talk) 07:19, 10 May 2026 (UTC)
::::: The quotation seems to come via this work: Ma‘rūf, Khaldūn Nājī. 1976. ''al-Aqalliyya al-Yahūdiyya fī al-‘Irāq Bayna Sanat 1921 wa-1952''. Baghdad: al-Dār al-‘Arabiyya li-l-Ṭibā‘a wa-l-Nashr. The English version comes from Ma'ruf via Nissim Rejwan (The Jews of Iraq), who wrote this: "{{tq|Ya’qub Balboul, speaking for the younger generation of Iraqi Jews, published an article in Al-Akhbar two years later (21 July 1938) in which he asserted that members of that generation were among the most fervent supporters of the Pan-Arab idea, which he claimed had struck roots in the minds of these young Jews to the same extent as had happened with their Muslim and Christian compatriots. At a time in which state schools and institutions welcomed Jews and extended assistance to them alongside their Muslim and Christian brethren, he wrote, ‘a Jewish youth in the Arab countries expects nothing from Zionism except colonialism and domination’.}}" This much in a reliable source indicates that the quotation is not out of context. It would still be interesting to see the full article, but meanwhile I think the sourcing meets Wiki standards. Zero<small>talk ↗</small> 10:05, 10 May 2026 (UTC)
:::::@Tiamut, I am a big skeptic when it comes to quotes in the context of Zionism. I have found distortions in the books of Gershon Shafir, Nur Masalha, Norman Finkelstein and Tom Segev (just to name a few). I have nothing against this quote in particular; verifying is just something I often do (and is why I have a library of scanned primary sources unavailible online).
:::::@Zero0000 Just as I was about to speak of Rejwan's book you posted this comment, so you probably already saw that in the same page the author referred to {{tq|Baghdad’s leading daily Al-Akhbar}}. Yesterday I checked that newspaper you linked just in case Rejwan forgot to specify that it is Jaffa's ''Al-Akhbar''.
:::::I also agree that this meets Wikipedia's sourcing standards. I hope that with the original Arabic quote I'd be able to search this in full-text databases and maybe find the primary source reproduced somewhere. <span style="color:#0072bc;font-family:Playfair Display;font-variant:small-caps">Northern</span>''Winds'' ❄️ (<span style="color:#f6b">talk</span>) 10:15, 10 May 2026 (UTC)

::::::::::{{To|NorthernWinds}}, Thanks for verifying the quote. The book author's commentary on it is an opinion that might not be shared by others. To me it sounds like a typical apologetic analysis that one finds whenever authors try to explain away evidence that not all Jews were Zionists, but since I know nothing about Ma‘rūf that is conjecture on my part. Rejwan's book makes clear that there were many examples similar to Balboul's. For example (p.220), "{{tq|a group of thirty-three Jewish dignitaries saw fit to send a telegram to the British Colonial Secretary and to the League of Nations in which they expressed opposition to Zionism and pledged loyalty to Iraq as their true homeland.}}" Or (p.225), "{{tq|In the following month, representatives of Jewish communities all over the country issued statements in which Zionism was condemned and loyalty to the Kingdom of Iraq pledged.}}" For sure there could have been an element of self-defense in these statements, but it is a very big leap of logic to claim that they must have really believed the opposite. :::::::::::@Zero0000 There is truth in what you said.
:::::::::::I do not consider this quote to be fully verified; finding the quote in its original language is usually a good sign but not always.
:::::::::::For example, in Segev, ''The First Israelis'' p. 14 it is written {{tq2|...Several months before, David Ben-Gurion proposed that Israel attack the Arab Legion and occupy all of Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Hebron, where about 100,000 Arabs lived. "I presumed that most of the Arabs of Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Hebron would flee ... and then the entire country, as far as the Jordan, north or south of Jericho, as well as all of the western bank of the Dead Sea would be ours," he wrote.}}
:::::::::::This is cited to {{tq|Ben-Gurion to Dr. S. Gross, Haaretz 3.23.62; Bar-Zohar, Vol. 2, pp. 823-826.}} The former is the citation of Bar-Zohar. Bar-Zohar says the quote is:
:::::::::::{{tq2|{{Script/Hebrew|הצעתי לממשלה להתקיף את 'הלגיון' שהתבצר בלטרון וסתם בפנינו את הדרך לירושלים. התכנית הייתה להשמיד מוצבי 'הלגיון' בלטרון ולהתקדם לשפך הירדן בים־המלח מדרום [ל]רמאללה, ולכבוש כל ירושלים והכיס הדרומי המכיל את בית־לחם וחברון, שהיו בהם כמאה אלף ערבים... הנחתי שרוב ערביי ירושלים, בית־לחם וחברון יברחו, כאשר עשו ערביי לוד, יפו, חיפה, טבריה וצפת, ואנחנו נשלוט על מלוא רוחב הארץ עד הירדן (מצפונה או מדרומה של יריחו) וכל ים־המלח המערבי יהיה בידנו.}}}}
:::::::::::This is nowhere to be found in the cited ''Haaretz'' issue ↗ (there was a related article ↗ in it though). Searching Israel's newspaper library brings up a ''Maʻariv'' article ↗ which is also citing Bar-Zohar but this time claims that it was said in a conversation between Ben-Gurion and Zalman Shazar ↗, and the author of the article claims to have heard some of it (he also oddly cited a nonexistent page). So is this quote real? It doesn't look so, and the ''Maʻariv'' article author's memory can't be relied upon ↗. I could not find it ↗ in Ben-Gurion's archive, nor was it present in his war diary. Suggestive comments on bias
Hey Tiamut,
The repeated suggestions that people are suppressing the Palestinians on Talk:List of Palestinians ↗ and Talk:List of people from Palestine (historical region) ↗ are unhelpful. Either take it to a noticeboard or please stop suggesting things you have yet to prove. You are doing this repeatedly and if you continue to do so it may as well be seen as a personal attack. I personally do think that there <u>'''may be'''</u> merit to the claim that there is nationalistic editing in the discussion, but if so, then it exists on both sides, not just the people you are arguing with. Please comply with WP:AGF ↗; I haven't seen anyone assuming that you are editing in bad faith. <span style="color:#0072bc;font-family:Playfair Display;font-variant:small-caps">Northern</span>''Winds'' ❄️ (<span style="color:#f6b">talk</span>) 17:12, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
:Hi NorthernWinds. This version of your previous message ↗ is certainly more diplomatically phrased. Both are noted without further comment for now. Tiamut (talk) 17:21, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
::Oh well.
::I take my sweet time perfecting my responses but sometimes I send them prematurely. My apologies <span style="color:#0072bc;font-family:Playfair Display;font-variant:small-caps">Northern</span>''Winds'' ❄️ (<span style="color:#f6b">talk</span>) 17:34, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
:::I do have an additional comment @User:NorthernWinds. You seem to be implying that I am engaged in "nationalistic editing" and that this is part of what is leading to the chaos on that page. I do not deny that I am Palestinian (this is an unalterable fact of my existence) and that my identity certainly influences my perceptions and editing interests (and those of others towards my editing). However, I am very aware of that and make every effort to balance my POV against those of others to achieve consensus towards a WP:NPOV ↗ presentation of all topics at this encyclopedia. Anyone who reviews the talk page can see that I have taken initiative several times to try to break the impasse over defining that article's scope and criteria, putting forward concrete proposals that take into account previously raised objections. I have accepted several compromises too. The very fact that I agreed to splitting off all pre-Mandate Palestinians into that page, despite the perception of Palestinians that all historical figures from Palestine are part of our history is evidence that I can and do compromise of my own POV.
:::I would also like to note that you appear on my talk page often to discuss things not essential to artIcle development. As I am here to build content at this encyclopedia, I ask that you refrain from filing up my page with such commentary. If you feel that I have a behavioural problem that is damaging article development here, you can make that case at the appropriate noticeboards. Thank you for your time and consideration. Happy editing! Tiamut (talk) 07:06, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
::::Hey,
::::I do agree that you are collaborative and that you do know to put your own pov aside; though some biases are hard to avoid (I am not accusing you of POV pushing, but I am just saying that it still has an effect on your editing, in my opinion). ::::I am saying this as an advice and to help you improve, not to accuse you or advocate for sanctions. I have no choice but to warn you about disruptive editing again. If you attempt a change ↗, are reverted ↗, argue for the change on talk ↗, and fail to acquire consensus, you cannot just unilaterally make exactly the same change ↗ a day later. You are choosing not to hear that because the error servers the other argument you are making now. This is all deeply distressing. I left a page I created after you followed me there because of your hounding. And now I have no choice but to leave a page about my own nation because of the same hounding. Have fun. The policy: {{tq|No one, no matter what, has the right to act as if they are the owner of a particular article (or any part of it).}} Although attachment to your texts can be a lot worse (as detailed in the article), I believe that just taking it into consideration too and using it as an argument falls under the spirit of the law ↗. <span style="color:#0072bc;font-family:Playfair Display;font-variant:small-caps">Northern</span>''Winds'' ❄️ (<span style="color:#f6b">talk</span>) 15:59, 25 May 2026 (UTC)

Hey, you raised NPOV concerns at Talk:Civilian_casualties_in_the_Second_Intifada#POV_tag ↗. Can you please continue to partake that conversation? If you're no longer interested in that discussion, please remove the POV tag from the article.18:18, 25 May 2026 (UTC) '''VR''' 18:18, 25 May 2026 (UTC)

Help evaluating some recent edits
Hey there; you seem like just the person who might be able to help. I've noticed a TA making edits recently to Tell Balata ↗ and Doikayt ↗. The TA has removed cited sources and related information, and replaced what's removed with uncited information that is far less detailed and more narrow in scope. I've noticed that they will particularly remove explicit mentions of Palestine and Palestinians as part of their edits, but other mentions or allusions will remain in the article. It's throwing me off in trying to analyse their edits, and I'm hesitant to do any more reverts without asking for some fresh eyes to have a look. You've been here for a long time and seem very knowledgeable in this area, and I wanted to ask if you would be able to offer some insight about what to do, such as specific warnings to give and/or reporting to AIV or potentially ANI. I'm just...something feels off and I can't quite work out what exactly.
I appreciate any help you're willing to give (and if not, that's cool too, thank you all the same). Cheers! <b style="color:#F35185;">Pikku</b><b style="color:#F9A6C5;">papu</b><b style="color:#FBCADD;">pata</b> 💌 🌷 ↗ 06:36, 31 May 2026 (UTC)
:Hey! It is a chronic problem really. You should first give them a warning on their talk using this template (<nowiki>{{subst:alert/first|a-i}}</nowiki>). And if they persist you can request Quick Enforcement at WP:AE ↗. Tiamut (talk) 06:43, 31 May 2026 (UTC)
::Yeah, I think I hesitated in case there might be the slightest chance of any merit to what they've tried to do, but I was still leaning towards reading it as just disruption and nonsense, to say it lightly. But thank you so much! This is a good place to start, and it's decent practice for me too with CTOPs (and learning that I should not do any more reverts since I've already done two on Tell Balata tonight). Hopefully they'll stop, but I guess we'll see what happens. <b style="color:#F35185;">Pikku</b><b style="color:#F9A6C5;">papu</b><b style="color:#FBCADD;">pata</b> 💌 🌷 ↗ 06:57, 31 May 2026 (UTC)
:::Actually, I could use your help once more if you don't mind. I said I was gonna add CTOPs banners to those two articles, and I think the A/I one fits for Tell Balata (and just published that edit), but I'm not sure if there's one that fits for Doikayt? I left that one alone for now. <b style="color:#F35185;">Pikku</b><b style="color:#F9A6C5;">papu</b><b style="color:#FBCADD;">pata</b> 💌 🌷 ↗ 07:05, 31 May 2026 (UTC)
::::You could probable use the one added at Talk:Freekeh ↗. The article does mention Palestine/Israel and so those parts do fall under the scope of CT. Tiamut (talk) 07:08, 31 May 2026 (UTC)

:Hi @User:Tenshi Hinanawi! Much of the material on that page are my own notes for a section I am working on. The quotes are all cited and attributed. Is it the length of a couple of them that is the problem? Tiamut (talk) 00:30, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
::I was doing the notification on behalf of {{noping|NorthernWinds}} who said that they were unable to notify you. My thoughts as a copyright clerk is that I'm not sure, since I'm well aware of editors copying sources with proper attribution and quoting, but where the line is drawn in terms of "Extensive quotation of copyrighted text" isn't that clear, so I'll ask some of the other copyright clerks/admins about this. Tenshi! (Talk page) 00:50, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
:::Thank you @User:Tenshi Hinanawi. I would like to better understand the policy on length quotes. Because I see people often posting them on talk pages (NorthernWinds has on several occasions herself). She is currently disputing addition of material related to these quotes in the article Languages of Palestine ↗ and she opened an WP:AE ↗ case against me as well. It seems she is busy with whatever I am doing all the time, and makes others busy with it too. Tiamut (talk) 00:56, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
