:Hey @MumphingSquirrel Thanks for the edits to clean up the Veronica Milligan ↗ page. I was wondering, how do I not repeat the references? Other than numbering them 1, 2, 3 etc by giving each reference a "name" I haven't worked out how to so this. Thanks for your help! TheResilientEngineer (talk) 18:36, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
::Hi, glad to help, and thanks for your recent pages on women engineers. To reuse a citation (assuming you are using visual editor), click the cite button and when the "Add a citation" box comes up, choose the Reuse tab - on the right of three options at the top of the box - scroll down to the citation you want to reuse and just click on it and then hit the insert button. Shout if I can be of any further assistance? MumphingSquirrel (talk) 19:34, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Hello, MumphingSquirrel, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions ↗. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some tips that you might find helpful:

Many Wikipedians organise themselves by subject area, we have hundreds of WikiProjects ranging from Arts ↗ to Zoology ↗, and I'm sure there will be ones that fit your interests. A good place to look for them is :Category:WikiProjects by topic ↗, alternatively the talkpages of articles you are interested in may have links to relevant Wikiprojects.

Please remember to sign ↗ your messages on talk page ↗s by typing four tilde ↗s (<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>); this adds your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions ↗, visit The Teahouse ↗, ask me on my talk page, or {{edit|Special:MyTalk|ask for help on your talk page|section=new|preload=Help:Contents/helpmepreload|preloadtitle=Help me!}}, and a volunteer should respond shortly. First women magistrates

Hi, thank you for adding that information to Margaret Lloyd George ↗. The Lady Londonderry ↗ referred to must be Edith Vane-Tempest-Stewart, Marchioness of Londonderry ↗. We don't seem to have an article on Lady Crewe ↗, but she would have been Mary Etienne Hannah Primrose, second wife of Robert Crewe-Milnes, 1st Marquess of Crewe ↗ and daughter of Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery ↗. DuncanHill (talk) 23:29, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for adding Lady Londonderry ↗ - she was on my list to follow up on as is doing something about Lady Crewe ↗ when I have a minute. Hoping there will be some useful media coverage with the 100th anniversary of the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act 1919 on 23rd December to talk MumphingSquirrel (talk) 20:02, 21 December 2019 (UTC)

:No problem, If I see anything that might be helpful to you I'll pass it along. I knew Margaret Lloyd George was one of the first women JPs in Wales, but hadn't made the connexion to the Act. It's an important subject, good to see someone working on it. DuncanHill (talk) 20:27, 21 December 2019 (UTC)
:Just found this ↗ about Lady Crewe, she was the first chair of the Central Committee on Women's Employment ↗. DuncanHill (talk) 21:01, 21 December 2019 (UTC)
:There's also an ODNB ↗ article about her - link is here ↗ - if you have a British library card you can access it for free) or I could email you a pdf of it if you would like. To do that, you'd need to email me first (using the "Email this user" link on my user or talk page). DuncanHill (talk) 21:12, 21 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi MumphingSquirrel! Engineers Australia appreciates the excellent work you have contributed to the Kathleen M. Butler ↗ page. We are featuring Butler during the 90th anniversary of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in March 2022. We want to get in contact with you to see if you can be part of this project. If you are interested, could you please contact Engineers Australia via sydney@engineersaustralia.org.au or call us on +61 2 6270 6555 and leave a message for Bill from Heritage? I will then get back to you in the new year to discuss the project. Thanks!

Anarchism

right|frameless|100px ↗ Hi MumphingSquirrel,

I saw your work ↗ on articles related to anarchism and wanted to say hello, as I work in the topic area too. If you haven't already, you might want to {{watch|Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anarchism}} our noticeboard for Wikipedia's coverage of anarchism ↗, which is a great place to ask questions, collaborate, discuss style/structure precedent, and stay informed about content related to anarchism. Take a look for yourself!

And if you're looking for other juicy places to edit, consider expanding a stub ↗, adopting a cleanup category ↗, or participating in one of our current formal discussions ↗.

Feel free to say hi on my talk page and let me know if these links were helpful (or at least interesting). Hope to see you around. <span style="background:#F3F3F3; padding:3px 9px 4px"><span style='font:bold small-caps 1.2em sans-serif;color:#871E8D'>czar</span></span> 13:32, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

Elizabeth Butler, Duchess of Ormond

Dear MumphingSquirrel, thank you very much for your corrections and additions to the article Elizabeth Butler, Duchess of Ormond ↗. I think I have a lot to learn from you. My English is 2nd language. I hope you do not mind if I try to discuss some of your interventions to better understand what I did wrong and why. Of course most of your corrections pass here unmentioned because they are obvious corrections and I understand why.

Line 21: you removed "(see Family tree)". I wondered whether one should never address the reader in such a fashion or whether this is only inappropriate in the lead. Is there something about this in the MOS or some other rule?

Line 95: you corrected "Her parents' lives" to "Elizabeth Preston's parents lives". I do understand that at the beginning of a paragraph I should not have used "Her", but should your correction not have been to "Elizabeth Preston's parents' lives" or even "Preston's parents' lives"? – In that same paragraph you corrected "King James&amp;nbsp;I" to "King James I" and in the following paragraph "10&amp;nbsp;October" to "10 October". Is it not good practice to use non-breaking spaces in such places? Please see MOS:NBSP ↗. – You removed the line break after the comment "&lt;!-- Referenced by the infobox issue-link --&gt;". I thought the code was more readable before. What is the improvement resulting from your change? Is there something about this in the MOS or another rule? – Further down you inserted the comma in "As the only child, Elizabeth ...". People often insert commas before the subject but not always. Sometimes not even after a subordinate clause. It looks like an improvement in this case, but can you please give me a rule?

Line 120/119: You added a citation. Bravo! However, you used a citation style <nowiki><ref>{{Cite journal}}</ref></nowiki> (or what is this style called correctly?) whereas the article's citation style is "shortened footnotes" (see Help:Shortened footnotes ↗) as prescribed in the header (line 4) by the template "Use shortened footnotes|date=April 2023" and by the section "Change of citation style" in the article's talk page.

Copying/translating content within Wikipedias requires attribution

Hi. I see in a recent addition to :Habib Benglia ↗ you included material copied/translated from the French Wikipedia. That's okay, but you have to give attribution so that our readers are made aware that you copied the prose rather than wrote it yourself. It's also required under the terms of our license. I've added the attribution for this particular instance. This is done via edit summary at the time you add the content, or can be done retrocactively like I did. There's also am optional template for the article talk page. Please make sure that you follow this licensing requirement when copying from compatibly-licensed material in the future. Thank you for an important woman! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:59, 4 December 2024 (UTC)

Today's story comes from a DYK about a concert that fascinated me, and you can listen! For my taste, the hook has too little music - I miss the unusual scoring and the specific dedication - but it comes instead with a name good for viewcount. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:36, 6 December 2024 (UTC)

On the Main page today Jean Sibelius ↗ on his birthday. Listening to Beethoven's Fifth ↗ from the opening of Notre-Dame de Paris ↗. We sang in choirs today. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:01, 8 December 2024 (UTC)

Listen today to the (new) Perplexities after Escher ↗. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:07, 12 December 2024 (UTC)

Listen today to Beethoven ↗'s 3rd cello sonata, on his birthday - it was a hook in the 2020 DYK set when his 250th birthday was remembered. I picked a recording with Antônio Meneses ↗, because he was on my sad list ↗ this year, and I was in Brazil (see places), and I love his playing. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:54, 16 December 2024 (UTC)

I come to fix the cellist's name, with a 10-years-old DYK and new pics - look for red birds --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:55, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

The World Destubathon ↗

You are invited to participate in The World Destubathon. It's currently planned for June 16-July 13, partly due to me having hayfever during that period and not wanting to run it throughout July or August in the hotter summer and will be run then unless multiple editors object. There is currently $3338 going into it, with $500 the top prize. As 250 countries and entities is too much to patrol, entries will be by user, but there is $500 going into prizes for editors covering the most countries. Sign up if interested! ♦ <span style="font-variant:small-caps;color:#aba67e">''Dr. Blofeld''</span>

Eiffel women

Hi there, MumphingSquirrel, We seem to be progressing quite well with these. 40 of the 72 are now rated B, GA or FA by ORES/Rater while all the others are C-rated except for Yolande Le Calvez ↗ which is still Start class. (I'll try to upgrade that one tomorrow.)

Are there any priorities on upgrading the rest? Otherwise I'll just continue working on those which appear weakest. It may be worthwhile bringing the event to the attention of WP Women in Green where they are primarily interested in improving the quality of articles rather than creating new ones. (Anyone interested can find info here ↗.)--Ipigott (talk) 14:50, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

:Thanks SO much for your sterling work on the 72, Ipigott - 503 as I type! Some of the pages really needed the attention. Great that 40 have hit a really decent quality level.
:There is an online editathon/get together via Zoom this Saturday 10.30 am UK time for which I am gradually tidying up the Googledoc ↗ this week. https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/women-of-the-eiffel-tower-edit-a-thon-tickets-1990315293621 ↗ if you fancy joining or its your sort of thing. There will be a profession and place of education columns listed by the time I finish.
:There are a few redlink pages in French in the Googledoc that need translating - mostly places of education and/or employment. I've been lurgy bound the past few weeks so not had the energy to tackle them yet, so have been concentrating on some of the smaller tasks. I might get around to one of them this weekend but please don't let that stop you if one appeals.
:I don't know what folk will choose to work on this weekend - there are lots of places to link the 72 women to - am collating as many as I can into the Googledoc and will add them to the Dashboard by end of week. Professions, women in xxx lists etc, as well as death and birth dates.
:I think do what ever you find most interesting - you've made some massive improvements of some of the pages, which is a brilliant improvement.
:Good idea about Women in Green. I will add to my to do list.
:Thanks once again for your editing - its has made such a difference
:MumphingSquirrel (talk) 18:15, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
::*Thank you for your detailed response, It's good to hear your are organizing an editathon on the same theme. I may be able to help integrating some of the results but believe my time will be better spent on further improving some of the C-rated articles. I don't think it would be too difficult to bring them all up to ORES B Class or higher. Contributors to Women in Green might be interested in nominating some of the highly rated ones to the formal GAN procedure. I am fluent in several languages and could help improve articles in French too but for me it is more important to improve the EN articles, not only because they are the most frequently accessed but because contributors from the other language versions frequently use them as a basis for article creation, sometimes simply by means of a full translation. Please keep me informed of further activities and anything in connection with the unveiling ceremony. I think it would be useful to put something together for ''The Signpost''. Now that we have already reached 500 edits, it might be worthwhile going for 1000.--Ipigott (talk) 09:11, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
::*:Absolutely, will keep you in the loop. The Signpost is a good idea. Not done something for that before. I've had a lightning talk on the subject accepted for Wikimania - will be putting together a short presentation with all due credit given - hoping it might inspire translations into other languages, but agree concentrating on en wiki most useful atm. Can use presentation as the basis for a Signpost piece?
::*:As I've been gradually working through the pages for the Googledoc, Marthe Condat ↗ has emerged as needing some attention. Will flag any others if they stand out in the list as requiring work.
::*:Have asked for the target to be extended to 1000 - I can't adjust it as didn't set it up. Am assuming it can be changed.
::*:Thanks again
::*:MumphingSquirrel (talk) 23:55, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
::*:Possibly a rush of blood to the head but the target has been moved to 1,250 - which we can probably manage...
::*:MumphingSquirrel (talk) 15:30, 19 June 2026 (UTC)

:::*Thanks for all these interesting details. I see you've been contributing to Radhia Cousot ↗. I've been trying to make further improvements myself but am faced with a problem. The article was created by the editor Cousotp (no longer active} in May 2014 and from the start there was quite a lot of unsourced information. In particular there are unsourced details about her childhood and schooling in Tunisia. Apart from her place of birth, I can find no sources anywhere for these details and am therefore tempted to delete the text in question. Maybe you and your team could take a look and let me know over the next couple of days if you can find anything, maybe on Gallica. The only Google search matches I could find are copies of the EN Wikipedia article. But I'll continue improving the rest of the article on the basis of reliable sourcing.--Ipigott (talk) 13:15, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
:::*I've just found this ↗ which should help a bit.--Ipigott (talk) 13:26, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
:::*:Thanks for flagging that - I see you are currently editing the article so will have a look later this evening. MumphingSquirrel (talk) 13:44, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::*Your edits and citations were really useful. Thanks in particular for this site ↗ which should be useful in connection with some of the other women.--Ipigott (talk) 11:35, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::*:Glad it was useful. I've now added the cite to all the pages, had missed a few in first run through. Have started improving Toshiko Yuasa ↗ - should complete this weekend. MumphingSquirrel (talk) 23:04, 26 June 2026 (UTC)

Problems with Yvonne Odic

While we seem to be making substantial progress on most of the Eiffel Women, I am finding it difficult to add meaningful details to the biography of Yvonne Odic ↗. I see you managed to find quite a bit in old newspaper reports but it seems rather surprising to me that she should have been added to the list simply for her contributions to special steels. Maybe her claim to fame was more dependent on her early academic successes. In this connection, there could be more at this site ↗ but the URL always times out for me. Perhaps you will have more success It rather a pity that Odic is still rated as Start Class while all the others are GA or at least high-level C Class. Maybe you could contact Femmes & Sciences and investigate? Thanks by the way for all your recent improvements.--Ipigott (talk) 09:43, 5 July 2026 (UTC)

:Not had much luck with Odic research - did a dive when made the initial translation but information is far less easy to find than for most others. Will have another go with some sources have discovered since and will contact a couple of folk off wiki who may have some ideas of where to look. Otherwise, the pages are shaping up nicely. I'm starting to list things in the Google doc as I work through connecting up names, dates, pages, academic links etc. Still some translations to do when have the brain space. Good to see Yvette Amice ↗ was on front page of en-wiki yesterday. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Selected_anniversaries/July_4?oldid=1362561950
:Thanks, as ever, for your continued work on the 72, will let you know if I find anything further. MumphingSquirrel (talk) 17:09, 5 July 2026 (UTC)

::I'm happy to see that after all the additions by {{u|Physmatlov}}, ORES now rates Yvonne Odic as a strong C. Pml has also been a mojor contributor to many of the other bios, especially in connection with publications. Great stuff!--Ipigott (talk) 13:13, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
:::You're very welcome! Sometimes we need to go down to the rabbit hole to find more information about those incredible women. By searching in French I found one interesting reference and then I went to the reference of a reference until I found nore information about Odic's academic life. I am still thrilled about Eugénie Cotton as well since it seems she collaborate with Pierer Weiss but no authorship is given to her. I am still looking for her Doctorat thesis at the Université de Strasbourg. If there is any particular page that you want me to look at it, please let me know.
