Stepan Shahumyan
Hi, I see you requested that the spelling of his name for his article be changed, which is something I strongly oppose. His name, pronounced in Armenian OR English is Shahumian (or Shahumyan). It has an H in it. That was his name. The fact that RUSSIAN does not have the letter H does not and should not change that. The common transliterations that were shared were no doubt overwhelmingly by Rusophilic writers, as not many people in the west have taken much interest in the man. In the Russian wikipedia, spell it without an H, sure, but in the English, it should be written with an H, as that was his name and there is no reason to take such liberties with the spelling and pronunciation. --RaffiKojian (talk) 06:41, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

Caucasus Front election result?
Hi. I'm struggling a bit with sourcing the results for Caucasian Front electoral district (Russian Constituent Assembly election, 1917) ↗. In brief, I find 3 different results -
1) Radkey (1989), with result only from Erzerum Fort, includes 1,948 votes for ARF, and no votes for Ukrainians (but hints that there could be a Ukrainian list). He also mentions that a "Georgian" list had been in the fray.
2) Spirin (1987) - Gives very rough vote count (300k for SR, 60k for Bolsheviks), but does give names for 5 electoral lists for the constituency.
"№ 1 - меньшевики
№ 2 - кадеты
№ 3 - эсеры
№ 4 - блок украинских социалистических партий
№ 5 - большевики" Notably, Spirin does mention the list for ARF or Georgians.
... 3) and Protasov (1997), available here http://library6.com/books/516416.pdf , stating that SRs got 229705 votes, Mensheviks 20574, Bolsheviks 61783, "Socialists" 10285, Kadets 8640, total 330987. It is clear from other entries that Protasov includes ARF (and almost certainly the Georgian Socialist-Federalists) in the column "socialists" for Transcaucasus constituency, and routinely includes the Ukrainian socialists in the column "socialists". Perhaps he has included ARF, Georgians and Ukrainian socialists in same column? Perhaps ARF and Ukrainians ran on joint list?
Could you check if there is any material in Armenian language sources on the electoral outcome for the Caucasus Front constituency? And confirm that there was an ARF list in the constituency? Many thanks, --Soman (talk) 04:25, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on your user page, :User:Yerevantsi/sandbox/Koriun ↗, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion ↗, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active '''editors''' of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources ↗ or advertising space ↗. Please read the guidelines on spam ↗, the guidelines on user pages ↗, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations ↗.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may '''contest the nomination''' by visiting the page ↗ and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Mount Ararat ↗
{{reply to|Yerevantsi}} Greetings, thank you for your interest in helping to ensure that my edits are accurate by reverting my edit. It appears that you may be incorrect on the fact that the Torah does not refer specifically to Mount Ararat. The two Hebrew words "הָרֵ֥י אֲרָרָֽט" literally mean Mount Arrat. (see https://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%90%D7%A8%D7%A8%D7%98) The Hebrew term "mount", as it appears in the Holy Scriptures, is not plural. The christian translation of the reference you gave does in fact refer to Ararat. See Genesis 8:4 (KJV) "And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat." I hope it is not your belief that only the Christian contention of the history of the mountain appear? I understand that the alleged resting place of "Noah's Ark" is a hotly debated issue, but it would be informative to readers to add the Hebrew and even the Muslim contention of the history of the location in order to inform the readers by giving equal time to all sides. As the article stands now, it appears to be a tourist brochure. I hope we can make this article better together. If we can not decide on the final edit, we can get help by obtaining a third opinion. Warning
30px|left|alt=Stop icon ↗ Your recent editing history at :List of cities and towns in Armenia ↗ shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war ↗; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Aivazovsky's name in Armenian script is relevant
Hi,
I don't understand your reasoning in undoing the simple addition of Aivazovsky's name in Armenian script and referring to him as Russian-Armenian. Both are factually accurate and relevant. They are also standard procedure on Wikipedia. Aivazovsky was born to an Armenian family living in czarist Russia. There is nothing controversial in saying he was Russian-Armenian. Similarly, it's relevant to have his baptized name in the original script on his English entry page, just like his civic name is written in Russian script.
Please explain your logic before changing anything that isn't controversial or wrong.
Thank you. <!-- Template:Unsigned --><small class="autosigned">— Preceding unsigned ↗ comment added by Therealash (talk • contribs ↗) 03:16, 8 September 2020 (UTC)</small> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->
I think it's more civil to respond and discuss, instead of reverting changes. But I will still discuss here, which is the right thing to do.
"his Armenian ethnic origin doesn't make him an Armenian painter; he was a Russian painter. His Armenian origin is already explicitly stated in the into; his baptismal Armenian name is mentioned in the background section"
I'm not sure what you understand by "Russian" painter, but his being of Armenian origin clearly makes him an Armenian. The fact that he is a painter makes him an Armenian Painter. The fact that he was born in Russia makes him a Russian-Armenian Painter. This is standard form of referring to the origins of people. See biographical books and other Wikipedia pages of famous people. I can cite some if you like.
What references do you have that he can't be labelled Russian-Armenian?
As for his baptismal Armenian name, Wikipedia as a standard summarizes key data in the first one or two paragraphs, while still repeating and expanding them in later sections. Again, I don't see a reason for your objection to including his Armenian script name at the top, next to the Russian and English scripts, other than because you don't like it. Clearly his English name is *also* mentioned in the background section, so why do you hate the Armenian script so much ?
Here are his pages in other languages, *all* of which have the Armenian script in the very first paragraph: fr:Ivan_Aïvazovski ↗, it:Ivan_Konstantinovič_Ajvazovskij ↗, ru:Айвазовский,_Иван_Константинович ↗, ar:إيفان_إيفازوفسكي ↗, es:Iván_Aivazovsky ↗. Clearly this is standard. <!-- Template:Unsigned --><small class="autosigned">— Preceding unsigned ↗ comment added by Therealash (talk • contribs ↗) 03:10, 9 September 2020 (UTC)</small> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->
Finally, Wikipedia is a community-driven encyclopedia. If my changes violate a specific rule, or is factually wrong, please cite what I'm violating. So far, it seems to me, that you have declared yourself the gatekeeper of what can go into Aivazovsky's article. I'm not sure why that is, but until and unless you give specific reasons for violations, I cannot take your objections seriously. Otherwise, I'm a very sensible person, if shown that my changes are wrong or inaccurate.
Thank you for understanding. <!-- Template:Unsigned --><small class="autosigned">— Preceding unsigned ↗ comment added by Therealash (talk • contribs ↗) 02:57, 9 September 2020 (UTC)</small> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

Edit warring at July 2020 Armenian–Azerbaijani clashes ↗
30px|link= ↗ You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war ↗; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Suggestion for articles
Hi Yerevantsi. Sorry about the news. It's probably not the right time, but maybe sometime in the future you might want to add articles, or material, on the line of Armenian cultural heritage in Turkey ↗, but regarding other regions with historic Armenian heritage - Iran, Azerbaijan, etc. The article Armenian architecture ↗ is partially covering the topic, but a lot more can be done. Armenian church architecture ↗ is just a start and has stagnated since 2014. You might know the book published by Jaca Book in 1986 (might have more editions), I warmly recommend it, it's a high-end book and it's surprisingly cheap by now. The photography is highly professional and so is the text (see here in Italian ↗ and here translated to English ↗). Arminden (talk) 10:11, 22 November 2020 (UTC)

Hello. I would like to make a request to you to bring into normal shape the newly created article by me about this interesting person. I am a complete newbie here, and I'm more busy with the Ukrainian section. Unfortunately despite the fact that I myself am Armenian, I do not know the Armenian language. Hi Yerevantsi. I noticed that the H.F.B. Thanks, - LouisAragon (talk) 20:50, 28 March 2023 (UTC)
:Hey! I've reverted it back to the original version since the later changes were all somewhat subjective interpretations of Lynch's map. It's not clear what he means by "peripheral regions" and their borders aren't always clear. (Did he consider those areas part of the Armenian plateau or not?) Hello. I wanted to inquire why you took out "''appeared in Russian and British sources''" from the Lake Sevan article. Now, in my opinion, it doesn't seem clear whom exactly the name was widely used by. KhndzorUtogh (talk) 21:02, 22 November 2023 (UTC)

<blockquote>'''This list, as a standalone article, fails WP:N ↗ guidelines, and would be better suited as a subsection of the Islam in Europe ↗ article. In addition, this article is in a terrible state despite years of existence. Most of the items on this list are uncited. Much of the items that ARE cited use information from outdated or inappropriate sources. For example, books (especially decade-old ones) generally aren't a reliable source of information for demographic data.
I propose this article be deleted and a new, higher quality list be inserted into the Islam in Europe ↗ article.'''</blockquote>

The user that goes by the name of “HistoryofIran” (who is actually an Azeri Turk based on his edits), is removing almost everything that was Armenian to “Iranian”, specially when it has to do with the Orontid dynasty ↗. There are like 5 sources that state Orontids were an Armenian state or dynasty, that he put under the Iranian sources. He is also cherry picking Cyril Toumanoff, who also states that Orontids were an Armenian monarchy. 2600:6C50:1F0:9730:FDE6:AE5:2C63:E4C0 ↗ (talk) 15:02, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

Hello, colleague. In Russian Wikipedia, at the request of one Azerbaijani participant, they removed information about Aivazovsky’s Armenian origin from the preamble.
Do you know of a source where it is written that Aivazovsky’s Armenian origin “played a role in his activities or was otherwise quite important”? With respect. Smpad (talk) 13:33, 19 June 2024 (UTC)

hello in article named Zoroastrianism in Armenia ↗ many users such as User:LouisAragon, User:HistoryofIran and others left links to thousands of sources claiming that Zoroastrianism was the pre-Christian religion of Armenia, but regarding the resistance of Armenian scholars to this, they only left a message from Albert de Jong ↗, who, like other scholars, votes for Zoroastrianism in pre-Christian Armenia. This, in my opinion, violates WP:UNDUE ↗ according to which, no matter what the proponents of this view say, the article must still contain an alternative view, for example, such scientists as H. Gelzer, A. Meillet, H. Tashyan, A. Matikian, G. Kapantsian, K. Trever and G. Sargsyan, who, according to Armen Petrosyan, cite facts that argue against the fact that the pre-Christian Armenian religion was Zoroastrianism [{{Cite book|author=Armen Petrosyan|title=STATE PANTHEON OF GREATER ARMENIA: EARLIEST SOURCES|url=https://www.researchgate.net/publication/357831679_STATE_PANTHEON_OF_GREATER_ARMENIA_EARLIEST_SOURCES|date=January 2022|page=16|quote=Polytheism was characteristic of the Armenian religion, and the pantheon was organized in accordance with the "family principle." Idolatry was specific, and the Armenian priests were absolutely different from the Iranian magi. Finally, there was no antipode of Ahura Mazda, which is a radical difference from Zoroastrianism. These facts were already noted by H. Gelzer, A. Meillet, H. Tashyan, A. Matikian, G. Kapantsian, K. Trever, G. Sargsyan, et al.}}] ~2025-31211-32 ↗ (talk) 12:21, 19 November 2025 (UTC)

Request for assistance with reliable sources on Armenian-topic article
Hey @Yerevantsi, if you have the chance to take a look at an article I'm working on I was wondering if you could let me know about the reliability of its sources. Many of them are Armenian publications, with some official status sources such as the Armenian Apostolic Church ↗ and the Ministry of Defence of Armenia ↗, while some are more questionable. If you have the chance to look them over briefly, I'd really appreciate it!
Note that the article in question is Assyrians in Armenia ↗, which is currently listed for a GA review here ↗. Surayeproject3 (talk) 15:31, 23 November 2025 (UTC)
:Hey again, just wanted to follow up and ask if you had the chance to look over the source list in the GA review. I noticed you had made a small clarifying edit (thanks!), but let me know if the other sources look good and are reliable. Surayeproject3 (talk) 16:41, 1 December 2025 (UTC)

Removing my flags and emblems without stating reasons
Undoing my additions without explaining why you did it in the first place is quite unprofessional. Koryk Vashtachian (talk) 18:25, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
:You cannot add flags and emblems you made up. Wikipedia is supposed to be an encyclopedia, where every claim and image is supported by reliable sources and not a blog where users can add fictitious flags. --<b style="color: red;">Ե</b><span style="color: black;">րևանցի</span> talk 18:32, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
::Many of our provinces do not have official flags, and the emblems and flags that were previously placed in these pages were also proposals, most of which were from Facebook. I am not turning Wikipedia into a "blog where I can add fictional flags", and regardless of that, they are not "made up", they are a combination of many proposals, and are based on actual flags and symbolism. You were still unprofessional with what you did, simply undoing something without even stating why. For example, the Tavush flag is based on the proposal for the flag of Dilijan, which is it's green and white colors. The flag of Syunik was based on the Khachen principality, getting rid of the black crosses and the text on the corners to simplify it. The flag Shirak is based on the flag of Gyumri, which is a sideways red cross with an orange outline, resembling a Nordic cross. The flag of Armavir is a mixture of the flag of Etchmiadzin and an early flag of the Hasan-Jalayan dynasty. The flag of Lori is based on the flag of the Kiurikian dynasty, a green flag with a white cross. There's many more to cover, but I think you get my point. Koryk Vashtachian (talk) 09:34, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
:::"Many of our provinces do not have official flags" the discussion pretty much ends here. If there are no official flags, then no flag should be featured on their Wikipedia entries. Proposals are not official flags and you and I are not to create flags based existing flags and symbols. See Wikipedia:Verifiability ↗. --<b style="color: red;">Ե</b><span style="color: black;">րևանցի</span> talk 12:34, 21 December 2025 (UTC)

Review Request
Hello Yerevantsi, I'm planning on expanding on articles and topics in regards to the Armenian national movement and have been planning and working on my sandbox. Right now I'm working on a more in depth rewrite for the 1904 Sasun uprising ↗ using more sources, and I also have another draft for the battle of Holy Mother of God Monastery ↗. I have yet to ask for a second opinion for most of my drafts from other Armenian wikipedians and I was wondering if you could go over some of them and give suggestions and advice.

Andranik ↗ article's featured status
hi Yerevanci, i was looking through the archives and saw that you nominated the Andranik ↗ article for FA status back in 2012. it's been 14 years since that last attempt, and i noticed the nomination was closed back then mostly due to a procedural timing issue. the article is a vital piece of history, and i’d love to see it finally get the star. since you were the primary person pushing for this, I wanted to see if you are still interested in working on it or if you'd be open to you and i, or a group including you and i, helping to polish the prose and citations to meet current FA standards. or if you think it could get the status right now if nominated. <span style="font-family:'Comic Sans MS', cursive; font-weight:bold; font-size:1.1em;"><span style="color:#5BCEFA; text-shadow: 0 0 5px #5BCEFA;">fr</span><span style="color:#F5A9B8; text-shadow: 0 0 5px #F5A9B8;">a</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF; text-shadow: 0 0 5px #FFFFFF, 0 0 8px #5BCEFA;">n</span><span style="color:#F5A9B8; text-shadow: 0 0 5px #F5A9B8;">k</span><span style="color:#5BCEFA; text-shadow: 0 0 5px #5BCEFA;">ie</span></span> <span style="filter: drop-shadow(0 0 3px #FF7F50) drop-shadow(0 0 6px #FF4500) drop-shadow(0 0 9px #FF1493);">🍑</span> 04:59, 18 March 2026 (UTC)
:Hi. I can certainly help with refining the prose and references, but I believe it needs significantly more work to meet FA standards. I've written dozens of GA-level articles, but FA is a different league, which I haven't even attempted in recent years. ----<b style="color: red;">Ե</b><span style="color: black;">րևանցի</span> talk 14:28, 18 March 2026 (UTC)
::hi again, i understand--the FA bar has definitely shifted over the last decade. however, i’ve recently been working on a section-by-section polish of the prose to bring it closer to those modern standards. figuring the picking and prodding--a form of ce--at the article's sections wasn't enough, i took sections of it, edited them fully and changed some sentences entirely, and added info (though i still considered this ce in the summary), and put them into the article i also think there is quite a bit of (tactical) detail we can incorporate from Draft:Special Striking Division ↗. i’ve developed that draft, which is, in some areas, a '''page-by-page''' account of the unit’s operations; while it currently relies heavily on a single source (which might hinder its approval as a standalone article), the content is highly relevant (info like the Yerevan standoff and several SSD engagements is missing) and could be integrated. perhaps we could satrt by identifying which sections you feel are currently the weakest? i think the prose of the article is good enough now. it is stable, has no copyright or image issues, seems to be objective, and well-covered. what do you think of a featured article nomination now? <br> update: i've nominated it as i now think it is about ready, and if there are any issues, we can resolve them once they get brought up at this thread: Wikipedia:Featured article candidates#Andranik ↗ <span style="font-family:Arial, sans-serif; font-weight:bold; font-size:1.1em; color:#FFFFFF; background-color:#5a08bf; padding: 0 4px;">frankie</span><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow', Arial, sans-serif; font-style:italic; font-size:0.9em; color:#888; margin-left:4px;">they/them</span> <span style="font-size: 0.9em; vertical-align: middle; margin-left: 2px;">(</span><span><span style="color:#FFFFFF; font-size: 0.9em; vertical-align: middle;">t</span></span><span style="font-size: 0.9em; vertical-align: middle;"> • </span><span><span style="color:#FFFFFF; font-size: 0.9em; vertical-align: middle;">c</span> ↗</span><span style="font-size: 0.9em; vertical-align: middle;">)</span> 22:11, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
::{{courtesy ping|Yerevantsi}} i assumed you didn't see this, but i have currently nominated Andranik for FA status, and it seems the only issues with it are its images. i outlined how to address the tags and licenses here ↗. could you apply the changes on commons? i'm currently blocked from there. <span style="font-family:Arial, sans-serif; font-weight:bold; font-size:1.1em; color:#FFFFFF; background-color:#5a08bf; padding: 0 4px;">frankie</span><span style="font-family:'Arial Narrow', Arial, sans-serif; font-style:italic; font-size:0.9em; color:#888; margin-left:4px;">they/them</span> <span style="font-size: 0.9em; vertical-align: middle; margin-left: 2px;">(</span><span><span style="color:#FFFFFF; font-size: 0.9em; vertical-align: middle;">t</span></span><span style="font-size: 0.9em; vertical-align: middle;"> • </span><span><span style="color:#FFFFFF; font-size: 0.9em; vertical-align: middle;">c</span> ↗</span><span style="font-size: 0.9em; vertical-align: middle;">)</span> 22:08, 1 June 2026 (UTC)

St Gregory paintings in his Jerusalem chapel
Hi Yerevantsi, how are you? Before finding you again I wrote a similar message to User:RaffiKojian, maybe you can work on this issue together (see here).
There's no readily available source on the large framed oil paintings on the life of St Gregory the Illuminator hanging in the Chapel of St Helena/St Gregory the Illuminator ↗ of the Holy Sepulchre Church: not the name of the artist, nor on what they represent. Each of them is copiously inscribed in Armenian, which doesn't help me much. I researched the best I could and here is what I have.
There is one showing what I believe to be the inauguration of the Etchmiadzin Cathedral with the double-peaked Ararat Mt in the background (SE); a vision of St Gregory with the Holy Cross showing in the night sky (SW); King Tiridates prostrating himself in front of St Gregory in the dungeon (NW); a baptism scene, probably with King Tiridates (centre of N wall); and 1 more with a strong light coming from above (NE, near door to Chapel of St Vartan). You can get a glimpse of them in this low-quality video ↗. 2 paintings on the S wall and 3 on the N wall. The assymetry may be due to the fact that there's the staircase leading down to the Chapel of the Finding of the Cross on the S side.
A protest note from 1980 ↗ speaks of a fire that "destroyed the priceless painting by Mardiros Altonian" and quotes a witness who saw that "(t)he main large painting in the chapel was completely destroyed". Either it was an unconnected work which was indeed destroyed, or the Jordanian diplomat made a common exercise in propaganda and the painting is one of the 5, recently restored and still hanging in the chapel. Anyway, Google only knows of a Lebanese Armenian architect, not painter, by the name of Mardiros Altounian, spelled with ou, and of no such painter.
If it's not easy to find online information even in Armenian, I'm sure there must be fellow Armenians from the Jerusalem community able to help. Thank you. Arminden (talk) 09:05, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
:Mardiros Altounian ↗ has his own article. I'll post a link on the talk-page there to Raffi's, to keep things in one place.
:His name is spelled in various ways, including with -onian:
::"Efforts were made in ... 1945 ... Armenian architect ... Mardiros Altonian, a specialist in Byzantine architecture, drew up a project for a church at Harissa ↗ ..."
